Since I was a kid I have always had Panic Attacks, where I feel I am losing some sort of control over my body, and it creates tremendous anxiety. But about a year ago I started to get OCD symptoms. Someone close to me has been battling depression for 17 years now. She is doing a good job, has held on to a demanding job for 4 years now. Though her performance at work are highly erratic. Periods of poor apathetic performance interspersed with periods of high performance.

She shows sympotm of chronic depression, withdraws from social life, has low energy, can spend days in bed, is messy etc.She’s on medication too.

I fear that the next phase will be schizoprenia. She’s 32 now and has been suffering from depression since she was 15.
Though I said her performance at work is erratic, i dont think it is suggestive of bipolar. She has been fired once before for apathy at work. Since then she is scared to lose her job. When her poor performance at work gets noticable and she thinks her job is in danger,she bucks up and works harder.

And she cannot unfortunately retire from work. She lives in a country that dosen’t give benefits. And her aged parents cannot take care of her. She has to earn her living. She would very much like to reyire or atlease work part time, but is unable to do so.

I made my doctor make me a referral to a psychiatrist, but I don’t know if it’s going to do anything for me or I believe it won’t. I’m looking for a medication or medications that do the following.

1. No weight gain like I hear most meds of this nature do.
2. Do not cause severe addiction, or present severe withdrawls upon discontinuation.
3. I like sex, so it should have limite sexual side affects
4. I don’t want a medication that hops you up like cociane, I’ve heard some do this in attempts to reduce depression. No thanks.

The only med I’ve tried before is Xanax, and this was only taken three times per month when full blown panic sets in. I need a med that basically releives panic symptoms, leviates depression and axniet, no addiction, no weight gain, no sexual side affects.

Two years ago I was homeless, depressed and ready to call it quits. My 11 year old son who lives 3 states away gave me enough motivation to pull myself together. I don’t have experience with either of these problems. I was always generally happy. It has been difficult for me to understand him and understand what he goes through. I have seen many many doctors and been on countless varietys of medicine yet nothing seems to help. I am in my house 24 hours a day, about 98% of the year, every year. If I leave or know that I am having to leave to go wherever, I have severe panic attacks which means I get ridiculously painful stomach cramps, diarrhea, excesive sweating, very hot, high blood pressure and more.

With these symptoms it is very hard to even make it to a doctors appointment for help. I just don’t know what to do as the thought of suicide creeps slowly closer and closer the longer this goes on. I’m not the suicidal type but it seems that if say 10 years from now I’m still not progressing, it may become inevitable.

Apart from drugs and counciling what else can be done?

I’ve been in Iraq for well over a year and while I have been pretty much out of harm’s way for the most part, it has been a rough year emotionally. I have not been diagnosed with depression before because I never saw a psychiatrist or anyone of that nature, however, I can tell you that for a good part of ten years, I’ve been having a series of depression which last for several days.

Here in Iraq, it’s been the most prominent. I would get depressed and feel empty inside and this will last for a week and then I would feel better for a week and get depressed for another week and feel better for three weeks. Usually, my depression is sudden. I would be at work and I will feel fine and then all of a sudden I would feel this uncontrollable saddness and empty feeling inside me. Almost like disappointment or like I lost something. Which would eventually turn into iritability and hostility and back to silence again.

I want to see a real psyciatrist but don’t know what to do. Thanks.

I have a condition where a rise of temperature at the back of my neck is emotionally triggered and I feel an aching sensation that really hurts. The emotions are based on being very angry and very sad. It is followed by chest pain making it hard to breathe and a sense of emptiness. The panic/anxiety attack symptoms that I found on the internet do not appeal to me because it is stated that most of them have a sense of impending doom, fear of death, bla bla bla~ I do not fear death nor am I suicidal. You live you die, that’s life.

So I will list down my symptoms once again.

1. Rise of temperature & aching sensation at the back of neck (emotionally triggered)

2. Difficult to breathe.

3. Calmed by smoking or listening to music.

I need someone to tell me my medical condition so I can address a specialist to prescribe me some medication as soon as possible.

Wish we had Xanax in my country.

I do not tolerate dumb answers, do not test my patience. I already have a short fuse to begin with. Thank you very much.

I have been having massive panic attacks without warning or being caused by anything, being really “low” and depressed for no reason, having more thoughts about hurting myself and acting on those thoughts (after about a year of being SIV free). I have also had a few issues concentrating, staying focused and finishing things. I want a few ideas of different drugs I could suggest to my doctor, and I’d like to know what the medicines do and how they effect you (pros and cons, please).

i also fainted due to guiltiness and some belief, maybe this is panic attack
when i wake up when im really tired, my heart beats so fast and i felt really unstable and maybe feel like fainting
basically i have a problem with being guilty and when i am i can’t do anything and there’s definately full tolerance of zero confidence for me at that point
i feel really happy right now, but i don’t know when it’ll attack again
seriously i feel too confidence sometimes, but there’s a cliff waiting for me at some point of my run, then i have no hope
i think i should support myself and kill this thing, and i will live my own life as i want

It’s a mess.
I used to think I loved the first friend before she moved. I eventually realized I didn’t. At the time, the second friend popped into my head and I wondered if I had feelings for her too, but I banished the thoughts for I believed I loved the first friend and felt that by thinking that way about the second I was betraying my love and myself. That’s started about 2 years ago. Before I sunk into my extreme depression, I was helping my second friend with her depression some. I helped keep an eye on her at school and helped her when she was having a panic attack. I have recently started to wonder about my love for a third person but realized once again I was decieving myself. I made a rule. To truely love someone I had to see the postive and negative and accept it. With the first friend I saw the postive and ignored the negative. With the third friend I only saw postive. I had two traumatic experiences in one year about 4 years ago and my problems seem to have spiraled from there. It’s incredibly frustrating because I had to quit my jobs. I dropped out of school. I have many family members/friends who make me feel guilty about these things (and I do, and depressed, frustrated, hopeless at times, miserable, the works) largely because they cannot comprehend why I am having such a problem.

So my question is, is there anyone else out there who has or had similar issues as my own who has regained control of their life?
I am already familiar with standard therapy procedures regarding anxiety attacks and so far haven’t found much success at all. Things are getting worse and not better.
So anyone out there who knows of a support group or a cutting edge research or a method that has worked for them?

I’m 16 and I’ve been diagnosed with (and given prozac for) social & general anxiety, panic attacks and depression.

I’m also:
-terrified of being left alone, losing the love of my friends/family, desperate to please everyone
-blowing hot and cold about people, thinking I love them one minute and absolutely hating them the next, often without them doing anything different
-most of the time I hate myself and have low self esteem, but sometimes I think I’m the greatest person ever lol
-I self harm a lot, self mutilate, and have attempted suicide twice (kept it a secret though)
-in the last few months I’ve begun to do impulsive things like getting off with random people, smoking all my weed at once and throwing up, spending all the money I’ve saved & stuff like that when I used to be a very thoughtful, cautious kid
-I had hourly mood swings before the prozac and felt very anxious and empty. I also used to become paranoid sometimes.
-I sometimes get furiously angry but I direct it all towards myself and cut.
-I’m a normal weight but I have problems with food. I’ll starve for a couple of days, then binge for another two, then maybe purge, then starve… etc etc.
-I’m very shy, but I use alcohol & drugs to make myself seem outgoing. Although I’m shy, I’m a lively, outrageous, fun person when I’m feeling relaxed with close friends (or drunk lol)

It seems to me like I have borderline personality disorder, not just extreme anxiety & depression. Why didn’t my psychologist diagnose me with BPD? What is the criteria for diagnosing that?

i gained about 26 pounds(i was on an extreme diet, then i ate a lot, so this isn’t a surprise)
i don’t sleep much as i did before(can’t sleep more than specified hours by myself and i don’t like to sleep)
when i was guilty, i couldn’t smile, so i got fired in a restaurant
i eat a lot and my dad and grandma noticed me eating right away when i came back to residence in university(i eat as i feel that i need to eat)
tiredness(i study, but i get tired, and can’t get up)
i also have a thyroid problem(excessive hormones produced)
things feel dirty to me
when i feel guilty, i can’t do anything properly, this might be do to something that i have to do before i do anything or else i feel i get punished, but before this happens, i convince myself to have no confidence in anything i do
i also fainted due to guiltiness and some belief, maybe this is panic attack

I went over to my friend’s house after I told her I was suffering from depression and she invited me over to talk about it and get away from life for a while. After we had a talk about many complicated things, we went to bed and I started to have a panic attack. It was worse than any anxiety I have ever had. Every part of my body froze, I got dizzy, shallow breathing, and I felt like I was going to throw up. After than I got out of bed and started to walk. I walked from 4 in the morning to 5 around the island in her kitchen. I counted how many times: 304. Then I tried to go back to sleep. Again the panic attacks. I gave up and sat there from 5:30 to 9:30. Just…sat there.

It wasn’t just last night. I haven’t been able to sleep for the past five days, yet I’m not tired. The depression has been going on for five months, and last night was the first panic attack I’ve had. I’m going to tell my mom about the sleeping problem tommarow, if it continues. But I can’t stand this anymore.
I also had to get away from her family for a while because my mom was about to pick me up and I couldn’t stop the crying. I want to talk to her mom about it, like she offered, but at the same time she doesn’t know me well enough. I don’t know what anybody on here can do, but please give me any thoughts you have on this, and something I should try? Please no drugs.

I was diagnosed with anxiety, & depression in about 2001. I was wondering if anyone knows what limitations I would have as far as finding a job? I feel I can go back to working any job now, & am not sure if having this label over my head will stop me from getting a specific type of job? I understand there are certain places that might not like someone with this tag over their head. I haven’t gone back to work yet due to the fact I feel this tag will stop me from getting employment, & everyone I ask about it has no clue as to how this will affect my prospects fro employment. I know I could never get back in the military due to this, but as far as civilian jobs go I have no idea how this tag will affect me or what kind of job I would be able to get being I have this label.

I would like to add that I am on disability, but as of right now my doctor feels I could do anything I wanted to, & so do I. I am looking for work currently, but am unsure if having been on disability for anxiety, & depression is going to put a big red X above my head when looking for certain jobs. I guess I would like to know if anyone knows if this will work against me when looking for a job in a certain field. Would this hinder my chances at say getting a job working at a nuclear power plant? I have been out of the workforce due to this, & have healed myself, but how will this affect me, & what can I do to remedy this if it does affect me getting certain types of jobs? I am not sure as I said how this affects the ability for me to get a high paying job like I had before this all happened. Will having this mark on my life affect me from getting any job I want? I have been feeling really depressed for the last two years. I have not been to a doctor for it yet. I somehow have this feeling that I am not worth the gas or the time it will take to get me to the therapist.
Lately things have gotten worse with me. I had a panic attack last night because of the stress. I have been having thoughts that would make someone’s skin crawl- really bad ones. I don’t have the energy to do what I know I need to in the house and the house has suffered from it. I want to sleep all the time.

I don’t want to go on medicine because of the possible side effects. Can you give me some advice on how to deal with this without medicine?

Added info: I was emotionally and physically abused as a child and teenager. I am 22 right now. I feel old for my age- I feel 40. We have three kids who probably add to the stress. Two of the three are step kids. I feel alone all the time, even when we have company. I cry for no reason.

I am not having a pity party. Any advice?
And I am having people tell me that I cannot be depressed. There is nothing wrong with me. I just need to learn how to deal with it, I am being told. I say I need help and since I said I need help, I am told there is nothing wrong with me. If I were truly depressed I would hide it. I have been hiding it for 2 years and now want help.

I know that exercise is one of the best natural remedies for anxiety/depression. I have been suffering from Bipolar depression for several years now…somewhere around 10 years. The doctor has put me on several different medications that caused me more issues (weight gain, fatigue and other stuff like that) that I could not handle. Bill – you are right, I am lacking self-confidence but I have had that problem all of my life. It’s not something I can just snap out of by myself. I almost wonder if at times I need people around me that feel like I do so that we can support each other…I am too embarrased most the time to tell anyone about my problems.
