Hello, a little background information:

I’m an 18 year old male living with parents and a sister. I lift weights and exercise daily, watch what I eat and I am very conscious of my physical health. I have a variety of friends, and I’m out almost every night with them.

When I was 12 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I received treatment and medication until about the age of 16-17 when I decided to stop taking my anti-depressants. I had a good couple of years, until early-mid 08.

I suffered through a difficult break up in May, shortly after my dog passed away. These were two events that I found nearly impossible to cope with at once- but I managed. However, ever since then, I have had terrible derealization and depersonalization symptoms.

Now I realize that reality is still intact, however it feels like I am no longer a part of it. I can still feel physical contact, laugh, make jokes, carry fluent conversations, hold a job, exercise and maintain relationships, but I still don’t feel like any of it is actually happening.

I’ve asked my shrink about this before and he told me to cut back on the stimulants, as they perpetuate the symptoms of anxiety. I still have yet to completely stop using them due to my high level of physical activity.

Er, back to the question: Are my feelings of derealization/depersonalization signs of an oncoming psychosis, or am I freaking out about it and making it worse?

My symptoms lately have been:

Rapid/Weird thoughts at night
Insomnia
Mood swings
Derealization
Depersonalization
Inability to concentrate (not often)
Flat expression(usually only to strangers at work)
Slight short-term memory impairment
Irrational fears
Panic attacks
Depression

am I about to go crazy? do those who are developing schizophrenia realize they are becoming ill like I am?

Somebody please help and put my mind to rest.
Oh, and I’ve never heard voices, seen things, had delusions or experienced any other sign of psychosis.

Back in late Nov.i started to have panic attacks and i don’t know why.So now everytime i have one i believe that i’m dying.I went to the doc.and she put me on Zoloft 100mg and Ativan 1mg and it does seem to be helping.They did blood work twice at two different times and they both came back normal,and i had a ekg done and that also came back fine.Do you think there is anything else i should get checked,or i’m i fine,besides the attacks.

I’ve had 4 panic attacks so far, one in May and the other three since August, 2 in consecutive days. I’ve been researching and wanted to know if this is considered a panic disorder. Two months ago, I was normal and had all things going for me. A football scholarship, one of the best writers around. You couldn’t catch me without a smile on my face!!

On spring break, I tried dextromethrophan, and smoked a little weed before the trip. I didn’t have any visual or auditory hallucinations but I strongly believed I was dying or on the brink of death. I told my friends I was about to die and needed to go to the hospital. I cried and asked if it was going to last my entire life, which I was convinced it was. They said it was a bad trip and I just went to bed and woke up fine.

A couple days later, I found out my dad was dying and I had to say my last goodbyes to him. It was extremely traumatic. Anyways, two days later, he came home and was fine?

The next week at school I think I had a panic attack while learning about schizophrenia in my AP Psychology class. I had an irrational thought “what if I had schizophrenia?” I instantly freaked out. I thought it was a possibility. I paced around, got nervous, shakey, bugeyed and very hot. The thought would not go away, no matter how hard I tried and I had a full week of what doctors described as panic attacks.

After seeing a doctor and talking to a nurse, they convinced me it was just anxiety. The anxiety or panis I had instantly was relieved when I heard that but a day later, I began to think “what if I were schizophrenic, what if I’m developing schizophrenia, I’m never going to be the same” and I started to be very nervous every second of the day, once again.

Ever since, all I think about is, “I’m going schizophrenic, this stress about schizophrenia is going to lead to schizophrenia, my future is ruined.”

I haven’t had any auditory or visual hallucionations, I am just so fearful of the disease that I am always checking to make sure I’m not hallucinating. It is all I think about, literally. I’m soooo scared!!!

Is this just anxiety that’s causing all of these thoughts? Or Am I going schizophrenic? Is it normal for fears like this to cause anxiety and nervousness??? PLEASE HELP. WHAT SHOULD I DO??
Also, I keep thinking it may be becoming a self fulfilling prophrecy which scares me. It’s almost like I make myself think I’m schizophrenic to satisfy my obsession with the fear of it. I’m scared taht I am going to go schizophrenic so that I stop worrying about it!! My world seems different now because all I think about is, “what if I’m schizophrenic”. Also, schizophrenia does not run in my family, whatsoever, but anxiety very heavily does.

Also, I feel very withdrawn because of this ‘anxiety’. I am sleeping more and I care less about hygiene then I normally would.
Could all of this sudden anxiety about developing a disorder such as schizophrenia be something due to a physical ailment? Such as diabetes or something else. My grandfather has diabetes and I believe I am at high risk for it.
The reason I fear schizophrenia is because I have social anxiety, which means I have bad anxiety about being successful and if I got schizophrenia, it would crumble my future. Also, I feel like the perfect candidate for it. I grew up with 2 extreme alcoholic parents, I stress so much about their health (my dad was minutes/hours from death at one point), I’m at the age that most guys develop schizophrenia, I’m in a transition in life, I have smoked pot before (maybe about 40 times, 2 years ago), and I had a panic attack while trying a dextromethrophan trip.. IM SO SCARED GUYS :( :(

I wouldn’t say im stressed but lately I’ve been worrying about blood pressure alot. Im 16 and in good overall health but about a 6 months ago i started having panic attacks about heart attacks because my cholestorol was high. I broke this fear after i got an ekg ecg and circulation test that were all normal. But it started coming back in different Circles. My mom and aunt suffer from high bp my dad does not. My bp was normal and she gave me benadryl.

The reason why im still stuck in this cardiophobia is because i worry that my panic attacks about hypertension will cause it. Weird and irrational i know but lately its been wondering in my mind and if i got info from other panic attack sufferers and there heart health after dealing with these kinds of panic attacks.

I have anxiety about getting my bp taken my latest was 138/93 but the school nurse said it possibaly was because the machine wasnt working right and it was making this beeping noise. My heart was beating slighty faster but mostly it was beating harder than if i did 25 jumping jacks. My latest bp from my regular doctor is usually 125/70

Basically Im Worried that these panic attacks are gonna ruin my health. I control them much better than i used to and ride them out by walking when i get them.

about 2 years ago i was smoking weed with a few friends and i had a panic attack. I felt like i couldnt beathe well at all and my heart was going to stop.
